Why now?

The transport sector causes 20% of CO₂ emissions in Germany. From 2027 the EU-ETS II increases petrol and diesel prices. With the CO₂befreit study we test how drivers react to CO₂ costs and compensate them through climate protection projects transparent, free of charge, effective.

This is how the study works

Participation in the CO₂befreit study is simple, transparent and clearly structured. In just a few steps we guide you from registration to the personal final report.

Choose your preferred card – virtual or physical, for petrol/diesel or electric vehicles – and configure your add-on options.

Initial measurement

Before the study begins, your vehicle is checked free of charge at a partner workshop (emissions and consumption measurement). This gives us a clean starting value.

Card activation

Your personal fuel or charging card is activated. From this moment on, all transactions are recorded and can be included in your CO₂ balance.

Study phase (4 months)

You fuel or charge completely free of charge within the selected tariff. All consumption is automatically documented via the card.

Monthly report

Every month you receive a personal report: your consumption, CO₂ emissions and the amount compensated through our climate protection projects.

Final measurement & final report

After four months, another measurement is carried out at the workshop. You receive a transparent comparison with the starting value as well as a final study report.
